RED RIVER, N.M. – The University of New Mexico ski team won the 2011 Jade Enterprises/UNM Invitational today with 881 points. Anne Cecilie Brusletto won her second event of the weekend, while eight more Lobos put up top-10 finishes. UNM out-paced the field by 50 points, ahead of second-place Utah with 831.

Senior Martin Kaas led the Lobos with a third place finish for the men’s Nordic squad. Sophomore Pierre Niess and senior Tor-Hakon Hellebostad earned the remaining points for New Mexico for a team score of 93.

On the women’s side, freshman Martine Weng placed seventh to lead the Lobos, followed by freshmen Christina Hellberg and Terese Andersson for 86 points.

Both Alpine squads finished the meet strong, winning both of the slalom races for the men and women on the second day of slalom racing. Senior Petter Brenna led the men’s team, finishing in second place. Freshman Juho-Pekka Penttinnen and sophomore Chriss Salbu finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively to give UNM 127 points and the win.

Brusletto earned her second win of the weekend in slalom racing. Sophomore Kate Williams placed fifth, followed by senior Stefanie Demetz in sixth for 126 points and the team win.

The Lobos will travel to Winter Park, Colo. for the RMISA Qualifier on Feb. 10 and the Denver Invite on Feb. 11-12.
