2011 Utah Invitational Results in PDF Format ![]()
MIDWAY, Utah — The University of New Mexico ski team finished third at the 2011 Utah Invitational. The Lobos competed in men’s and women’s classical Nordic Saturday to conclude the event. New Mexico had its best Nordic showing of the year at Soldier Hollow Resort. UNM had the best men’s 20K classical Nordic race of the day, beating event-winner Colorado by two points. Tor-Hakon Hellebostad placed second in the men’s race and had his top collegiate finish. UNM had four Top-10 finishes in the men’s race. Martine Weng, who placed seventh, had the highest finish for UNM in the women’s 15K classical Nordic event.
Hellebostad finished the classical Nordic event with a time of 1:04:42.5 and earned 47 points. Martin Kaas placed third with a time of 1:04:44.9 and picked up 44 points. Christian Otto was sixth and Pierre Niess was eighth.
Weng had the best women’s time for New Mexico with a time of 57:46.4. Terese Andersson came in eighth for UNM with a mark of 57:55.4.
Colorado captured the invitational title with 923 points. Utah finished second with 898 points and New Mexico was third with 824.5 points. Denver was fourth, Alaska-Anchorage fifth, Montana State came in sixth and Westminster College seventh.
The UNM ski team will return to action on Feb. 4-5 at the New Mexico Invitational held in Red River, N.M.
