University of New Mexico senior defender Michael Reed and junior midfielder Lance Rozeboom were both honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America on the All-West Region team, as both were placed on the third team.
Both players helped the Lobos go 9-5-5 on the season and qualify for their second straight NCAA College Cup appearance, and the teams’ eighth in the last 10 years.
Rozeboom, from Walker, Iowa, had a pair of goals and two assists on the season for the Lobos. He got the 2010 season off in style for New Mexico by scoring the winning goal in a 3-2 win over #25 St. Louis. Rozeboom also scored against #20 Georgetown, and he picked up a pair of assists as well.
Reed was one of UNM’s top defenders, and along with helping the team to six straight shutouts near the end of the season, he led the team in scoring with two goals and six assists for 10 points. His penalty kick goal kick started UNM’s rally in the regular season finale against UNLV, as the Lobos trailed 2-0 in the second half but came back for a 3-2 win. He also added a goal against Air Force in a 3-2 loss, but Reed was more adept at set folks up, as his six assists will attest.
Reed picked up assists on UNM’s overtime goal over UNLV in the conference tournament, as well as for the only goal the Lobos would get in a 4-1 conference tournament loss to Creighton.
Reed and Rozeboom led the Lobos in minutes played during the season, and they were two of only three Lobos to start every game in 2010. Rozeboom was a first team All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation pick in November, and Reed was a second team selection.
