ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team wrapped up the first day of their annual Fall Invitational. The three-day tournament hosted by the Lobos, opened play this morning at The Linda Estes Tennis Complex.The Lobos took eight of their fourteen matches today, playing strong.
Singles winners included Michaela Bezdickova, Laura Richardson, Nikolina Grbac and Amy Shipperd.
Doubles winners were pairs Eggleston/Shipperd, Bezdickova/Bonner and Grbac/Oldani in both rounds.
Head Coach Roy Canada was very impressed with the opening of the play.
“I have to say this tournament has some of the toughest competition we have seen all fall,” Canada said. “With three of our girls in the semifinals of their flight and three out of our four doubles teams in the semifinals, we are looking strong. Overall eight solid wins out of fourteen matches makes up for a very good first day.”
Play continues Saturday with doubles beginning at 9 a.m. at the Linda Estes Tennis Complex.
