The entire University of New Mexico women’s golf team, plus members of the Lobo football team and UNM Spirit Program participated in the Give thanks. Walk. event Nov. 20, at Cottonwood Mall. The 5k walk was conducted in 64 cities across the U.S., last Saturday to help raise money for the children of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Participants were invited to form walk teams with their friends, family and co-workers and recruit sponsors to make donations in support of their efforts and the lifesaving work done at St. Jude.
Conducted in Albuquerque for the first time, the event raised more than $27,000 locally. The UNM women’s golf team personally raised close to $1,300.
“It truly touched my heart to know that I was helping these children and families,” said UNM sophomore golfer Beth Buchner. “It really opened my eyes to how lucky I am to be healthy and made me wish they could take my spot to know what it feels like to be a healthy child and run and play outside.”
