The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation has selected New Mexico sophomore goalkeeper Justin Holmes as the MPSF Player of the Week. Holmes earned the honor for the second time in three weeks.
The Elkhart, Indiana native combined for 16 saves, recording season-highs of seven and nine in each contest, as the Lobos came away with scoreless ties at Sacramento State and San Jose State. Holmes ran his shutout streak to a school record 614 minutes, spanning over six straight games, and becomes the third repeat winner of this award in 2010. The three straight 0-0 draws for the Lobos is an NCAA record, while the fourth scoreless draw of the season ties an NCAA record.
Holmes’ goal against average went down to a season-low 0.71, and the shutouts give him seven on the season. Holmes has six straight shutouts, and his first two in the streak were both on the road as well. Holmes earned MPFS honors for those two initial shutouts as well.
Other players nominated were Joe Willis of the University of Denver, and Stephen Sifuentes of UNLV.
