The University of New Mexico women’s golf team is in 12th place after the first round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. UNM shot a 15-over-par 303 today at the Boulder Creek Golf Club (par-72, 6,329 yards) in Boulder City, Nev.

Led by Emily Tubert’s blazing 63 (9-under), 19th-ranked Arkansas has a hearty 17-shot lead in the team standings. Tubert shot 30-33 to lead the Razorbacks to an 11-under 277. Arkansas was the only team in the 17-team field to shoot under par today. Washington is second at 294.
Junior Sarah Salvo led the Lobos with a 1-under 73 (37-36). She made a birdie and two bogeys for her second straight 73 of the fall season.
Playing as an individual, freshman Sofia Hoglund came in with a 75 (39-36). She was 5-over on her round after consecutive double bogeys at No. 18 and No. 1, but played the final eight holes in 2-under. Hoglund is tied for 32nd place.
Freshman Sammi Stevens finished with a 76 (39-37). She really only had one bad hole, taking a triple-bogey 7 on the par-4 18th. Stevens is tied for 44th.
Junior Manon de Roey are tied for 56th at 77. Hellbom’s undoing was the last five holes of the front nine where she lost five shots between 14 and 18.
Junior Beth Buchner finished with an 80 (39-41). She was 3-over on her round through 12 holes but dropped five strokes over the last six holes.
