Albuquerque, N.M. — Sophomore goalkeeper Justin Holmes was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week after recording a pair of 1-0 shutouts over the weekend. The announcement was made by league officials on Monday afternoon.
Holmes, a native of Elkhart, Indiana, helped New Mexico burst into first place in the Mountain Division as he recorded his second and third clean sheets of the season. On Friday against Denver, her recorded a season-high tying six saves in a 1-0 win over the Pioneers, avenging a 1-0 loss at home the week before.
Against Air Force Holmes had an easier time, recording just one save as New Mexico scored with just two seconds left to win the game. The two shutouts helped to lower Holmes’ goals against average to 1.06 for the season. This is his first Player of the Week Award and the first for New Mexico as well.
Other players nominated were Air Force’s Matt Underwood and San Jose State’s Nick Cukar.
