The New Mexico women’s golf team is in a three-way tie for sixth place after two rounds of the Windy City Collegiate Classic in Highland Park, Ill. The Lobos posted a 36-hole total of 614 today at the Northmoor Country Club (par-71, 6,108 yards). UNM trails leader and 9th-ranked Purdue (583) by 31 shots. Iowa State is two strokes behind the Boilermakers at 585.

After playing the final hole in 3-under as team, New Mexico is tied with East Carolina and fellow Mountain West Conference member TCU. The Lobos navigated 36 holes in 306 and 308 on a cool and cloudy day. Morning temperatures in the Chicago area were in the high 30s.

The 11-team field will begin Tuesday’s final round at 6:30 a.m. Mountain Time.

Juniors Rebecca Hellbom and Sarah Salvo are the top Lobos, tied for 17th at 9-over 151.

They trail Iowa State’s Prima Thammaraks by nine shots. Thammaraks shot even-par 142 (74-68). Her teammate, Victoria Stefansen, is two shots back at 144.

Hellbom (77-74) got off to a slow start by bogeying the first four holes. She ended up 5-over on the front nine, but played her final 27 holes in 4-over. In the second round, Hellbom birdied two of the first five holes, but dropped six shots over the next 12. She did finish the day with a birdie 4 on No. 18.

Salvo (73-78) carded five bogeys and three birdies in her first round, but had just one birdie against eight bogeys in the afternoon.

Freshman Sammi Stevens is tied for 30th at 156 (79-77). She birdied 17 and 18 to end the second round.

Sophomore Manon de Roey is at 158 (78-80), tied for 40th.
