Love Red, Live Green … Junior Kelly Williamson is coordinating the Lobos Love Red, Live Green Night on Sept. 14 against New Mexico State. Williamson, a conservation biology major, is working with the UNM Sustainability and Recycling Departments on an energy conscience giveaway for all fans in attendance. Fans can also learn how to calculate their carbon footprint.
Against New Mexico State (6-3) … This will be the 62nd meeting between the Lobos and the Aggies. NMSU leads the series, 37-24. Last year, UNM won, 3-0, in Las Cruces. The win ended a nine-match losing streak and a eight-match road losing streak for the Lobos.
Later This Week … The Lobos wrap up the non-conference portion of the 2010 season at the Hilton Garden Inn Invitational in Tampa, Fla. this weekend, Sept. 17-18. The Lobos will play host South Florida on Friday night and Jacksonville and Florida Atlantic on Saturday.
Next Week … The Lobos begin Mountain West Conference action on Thursday, Sept. 23 at San Diego State. Match time in San Diego is set for 8 p.m. (MT).
The Lobos received votes in the AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll for the first two weeks of the season. Currently, five Lobo opponents are receiving votes in the poll – No. 1 Stanford, No. 6 Hawai’i, No. 7 USC, No. 14 Colorado State and RV Michigan State.
Senior Jade Michaelsen was named the MVP of the Comcast Lobo Challenge for her three-match performance over the weekend. Senior Taylor Hadfield joined Michaelsen on the All-Tournament Team.
Senior Jade Michaelsen has been named one of the Top 30 finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. The award recognizes seniors from all over the country for their achievements in competition, classroom, community and character.
The Lobos’ match on Nov. 13 vs. Wyoming scheduled for The Pit has been moved back to the Johnson Center due to scheduling conflicts.
About New Mexico (4-5, 0-0 MWC) … New Mexico recorded its 500th program win on Friday, Sept. 10 when it beat SMU, 3-1, in the second round of the Comcast Lobo Challenge. The program is in its 36th year of varsity competition and has a record of 500-521 … The Lobos won the Comcast Lobo Challenge on a tiebreaker with more sets won in the three matches than SMU and UC Santa Barbara. Senior Jade Michaelsen was named the MVP of the tournament and senior Taylor Hadfield was named to the all-tournament team … Senior middle blocker Taylor Hadfield was named to the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Classic All-Tournament team … The Lobos earned second place in the MCM Elegante Lobo Classic with wins over Pepperdine and Tulane and a loss to No. 4 Stanford. Taylor Hadfield and junior outsider hitter Kelly Williamson were named to the all-tournament team … New Mexico received votes in the 2010 AVCA Preseason Poll (40th) and the Aug. 30 poll (27th) … UNM will face 10 teams receiving votes in the preseason poll this season … The Lobos were picked fourth in the 2010 Mountain West Conference Preseason Poll, eight points out of second … Senior setter Jade Michaelsen was named to the All-MWC Preseason Team … Michaelsen and senior outside hitter Lisa Meeter are the team captains for 2010.
About New Mexico State (6-3, 0-0 WAC) … The Aggies, under the direction of head coach Mike Jordan, went 1-2 in the LSU Invitational over the weekend in Baton Rouge. NMSU took No. 21 LSU to five sets in the loss to the host school. Senior outside hitter Kayleigh Giddens leads the NMSU offensive attack with 4.52 kills per set and a .262 attack percentage. She is also second on defense with 2.68 digs per set.
Michaelsen Aiming For Lobo All-Time Career Assists Mark … Senior setter Jade Michaelsen moved into second on the UNM career assists list during the Sept. 10 match against Sacramento State, passing Alicia Bergmann (3,283; 1992-95). She reached the 3,000 career assist mark in the third set of the TCU match on Nov. 20, 2009. She needs 390 assists to move into first place.

Following The Lehne … Former Lobo Anna Lehne blocked her way up the UNM career blocking charts, wrapping up her career in 2009 ranked second on the total blocks list. Now it is time for some current Lobos to challenge those marks. Senior setter Jade Michaelsen jumped on to the career block assists list at No. 10 at the end of the 2009 season with 208.

Meeter Working Towards UNM 1,000-Kill Club … Senior Lisa Meeter joined the UNM 900 Career Kills Club with her final kill of the weekend against UC Santa Barbara on Sept. 11. Meeter can become the 10th Lobo to record 1,000 career kills by the end of the season. Meeter moved into the Top 10 in all-time career attempts against Hawai’i on Sept. 4. Meeter is on the verge of cracking the UNM career service aces Top 10 list. The outside hitter from Colorado Springs, Colo., led the team in aces two of the past three seasons, finishing the 2009 season with 30 and 84 for her career. As a freshman, Meeter recorded 38 aces during the 2007 season, tying for eighth on the UNM Top 10 season aces list. She is two aces away from cracking the UNM Top 10 career aces list. She is also close to the top 10 in digs and points. With 98 more digs and 100 more kills, Meeter can become just the fourth Lobo with 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs. The other three Lobos with 1,000 kills-1,000 digs are Tania Gooley, Maria Gurreri and Nao Ikeda. When she cracks the 100 aces mark as well, she can join Gooley and Ikeda with 1,000 kills, 1,000 digs and 100 aces.
