The University of New Mexico’s cross country team produced four top-ten finishes Saturday morning at the 2010 Lobo Invitational. Over 1,500 runners participated in the event held at UNM’s North Golf Course. Rory Fraser had the top finish for the Lobos as he finished second in the 8k men’s collegiate event with a time of 24:31.4.

Fraser was followed by teammate Keith Gerrard in third place as he crossed the finish line at 25:05.0. In ninth place was Alex Willis claiming a time of 25:23.3. Finishing in 12th place was Sean Stam with a finishing time of 25:31.6.

On the women’s side, Ruth Senior came in third in the 5k run as she finished the race with at time of 17:18.6. Also finishing in the top 15 was Vanessa Ortiz in 11th place, who recorded a time of 17:52 and was followed in 13th place by Delyth James at 18:07.4.

“It was a great day. There were probably 1,500 athletes competing here today. It’s just a great day for cross country here in New Mexico,” said head coach Joe Franklin. “The men’s race went very well and Rory ran very well. It was a good start.. The women’s team is a really solid group of girls and the depth we have right now is pretty amazing.”

The team returns to action September 18 when they travel to Las Cruces, N.M. for the New Mexico State Kachina Classic.
