ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — For the fifth time in six years, the University of New Mexico women’s basketball team has proven that they can get the job done in the classroom, as well as the basketball court. The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has the Lobos ranked No. 11 in the 2009-10 WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll with a team grade point average of 3.433. It is the fourth season, since joining the WBCA academic rankings, that UNM has finished in the Top 12. The Lobos are the only Mountain West Conference team ranked in the Top 25.

“Congratulations to our players for doing a great job in the classroom,” said Lobo head coach Don Flanagan. “They had a great second semester, which was a challenge with the amount of time we spent on the road this year. We are really proud of our players.”

New Mexico was 19-13 on the court in 2009-10, advancing to the Second Round of the Women’s NIT. It was the 13th consecutive season that the Lobos have moved on to a national postseason tournament. UNM will be one of 16 NCAA Tournament First and Second Round sites in 2011, March 19 and 21.
