ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico incoming freshman women’s golfer Sammi Stevens won for the second time at the Texas Oklahoma Jr. Golf Tournament. Stevens, who was the champion of this tournament in 2009, took home the trophy on June 24. She ended this tournament carding an 8-under-par 69-67-72-69=277 to lead a 21-stroke win.
Stevens competed in the Open Championship division. She was atop a field of 61, her nearest competitors being Blair Best, April McCoy and Alexandra Rossi, all ending with a tournament total of 298.
The Hereford, Texas native improved her total this year. In 2009, Stevens finished with a tournament total of 76-73-71-78=298.
Stevens shot her 3-under 69 at the Wind Creek Golf Course, located at the Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. She carded the 5-under 67 at the Wichita Falls Country Club. In round three she shot at par 72 and in round four shot a 3-under par of 69. Stevens ended the tournament playing both round three and four at the Champions Course at Weeks Park, also in Wichita Falls.
