2010 Texas Oklahoma Jr. Golf Tournament Results
WICHITA FALLS, Texas — There were only three rounds in the 60s turned in the Open Division of the 54th annual Texas-Oklahoma Junior Golf Tournament and all three rounds came off the clubs of future Lobo Sammi Stevens, who rolled to the 2010 title by 21 shots.
Stevens, who won the Texas-Oklahoma Junior title in 2009, put a stranglehold on the 2010 crown by throwing out opening rounds of 69-67 and took a 12-shot lead into the final 36 holes. She led by four shots after 18 holes.
Stevens had a minor hiccup on Wednesday when she didn’t have the lowest round of the day, soaring to an even-par 72. She got back into the 60s during the final 18 holes on Thursday to card a 69 and finished with a 72-hole card of 277. Her closest competition — three golfers — were 21 shots back at 298.
Stevens will join Jill Trujillo’s Lobo program this fall as a freshman.
Stevens competed in the Open Division which featured a beginning field of 61 golfers. Several golfers did not compete in the final round after failing to make the cut.
The tournament was played at the Wind Creek Golf Course, located at the Sheppard Air Force Base; at the Wichita Falls Country Club in Wichita Falls, Texas; and at The Champions Course at Weeks Park, also located in Wichita Falls.
The Hereford, Texas, native won the Texas-Oklahoma Junior title in 2009 with a card of 76-73-71-78–298. Her card improved by 21 shots in one year.
