The University of New Mexico track and field team advanced two athletes today at the NCAA Preliminaries in Austin, Texas. Those who advanced will compete in Eugene, Ore. June 10-13. Lamaar Thomas and Ruth Senior both qualified in their respective events.
Thomas has earned his ticket in the 100-meter dash to Eugene, Ore. The sophomore ran a time of 10.41 to qualify. The top three in each heat advanced plus the next three best times. Thomas missed the top three in his heat, but his time qualified him for the next round.
Senior finished third in the first heat of the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase to earn a spot in the semifinals in Eugene. The junior ran a time of 10:15.46.
