COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team concluded its regular season with a 6-1 victory over the Air Force Falcons today. UNM finishes with a regular season record of 8-11 overall, 3-3 in Mountain West Conference action. Air Force falls to 10-12, 0-6 in the MWC.
Freshman Conor Berg continued both his singles and doubles winning streaks. Berg, who now has a 20-10 fall and dual combined record, has rattled off 10 consecutive singles wins and eight straight doubles wins. The Greenbrae, Calif. product picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win over Sam Barnes in the No. 5 position after teaming up with partner Ben Dunbar for an 8-4 win over Austin Frances and Lance Wilhelm at the No. 2 doubles slot.
Moreover, Berg went a perfect 6-0 in singles and doubles conference play.
The Lobos opened the match by sweeping the doubles point and won eight of nine matches overall on the day. Jadon Phillips saw his first action at the No. 1 spot and picked up the victory, 6-1, 6-2 over Wilhelm. Dunbar and Carl Ho sealed the win with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively, to give UNM back-to-back wins for just the second time this season.
The Lobos travel to Las Vegas, Nev. to defend their 2009 MWC Tournament Championship as the quarterfinals of the conference tournament kick off on Wednesday, April 28.
