COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of New Mexico men’s golf team wrapped up the first two rounds of the Aggie Invitational late Saturday afternoon, closing the day in sixth place after shooting a 13-over-par 364-369=733. The Lobos, ranked 45th in this week’s Golfweek Collegiate poll, are currently five strokes ahead No. 24 TCU and six strokes behind No. 7 Texas.

Sophomore James Erkenbeck led the Lobos’ after carding an even-par 72-72=144. Erkenbeck sits in a five-way tie for 17th place. Junior Tom Carlson and freshman John Catlin are tied for 22nd after posting matching 1-over 145s.

Junior Travis Ross is tied for 44th with Senior Brandon Putnam after each shot a 5-over 149. Putnam is playing as an individual. Senior Nick Geyer carded a 6-over 76-74=150 and is tied for 49th, while freshman Ryan Gay is tied for 66th after shooting an 11-over 78-77-155.

Host Texas A&M holds the team lead at 23-under, fllowed by No. 1 Oklahoma State (-8), No. 14 Texas Tech (-7) No. 30 San Diego State (-2) and Texas.

Sunday’s final round of the Aggie Invitational begins at 7 a.m. MT with a split-tee start on Sunday.
