ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico sophomore quarterback B.R. Holbrook completed 29-47 passes for 365 yards Wednesday to highlight an hour-long scrimmage held inside University Stadium. Holbrook, who was the only active quarterback, connected with 12 different receivers and threw 5 touchdowns. The Lobos will return to the practice field Friday from 4-6:25 p.m. The 2010 Cherry-Silver game is set for Saturday, April 17 at 1 p.m. Admission is free to the public, with gates opening at noon.
The Lobo receivers were the highlight of the scrimmage. Junior transfer WR Lamaar Thomas had five catches for 57 yards, including an 18-yard TD. Thomas caught a short pass and zigzagged his way to the end zone. The speed and agility was impressive and lived up to the nickname “Flash”.
Sophomore RB Kasey Carrier led all receivers with 67 yards on three catches and a TD. Carrier was the first Lobo to reach the end zone during the scrimmage. He caught a swing pass along the west sideline and bolted 36 yards for the score. It was the first of his two touchdowns. Carrier managed to rush for 38 yards on nine touches, and was the only Lobo running back with a rushing TD.
Senior WR Bryant Williams had 51 yards receiving including a 27-yarder. Freshman WR Myles Daughtry pulled in four catches for 64 yards. Daughtry was able to slip across the middle for gains of 11, 13 and 20. The 13-yard reception resulted in a TD.
Senior WR Chris Hernandez and TE Jonathan Mader both had TD catches. Hernandez leaped up over a defender for his score, while Mader kept his feet in bounds deep in the corner.
New Mexico ran the ball 27 times for 85 yards. Sophomore RB Demond Dennis and senior RB Terence Brown finished with 22 yards on the ground. Junior RB James Wright pounded his way for 15 yards on five carries.
The Lobos were 3-4 on field goal attempts. Junior kicker James Aho connected on kicks from 33 and 32, but missed a 53-yarder. Transfer kicker Greg Rivara made his only attempt from 37 yards.
