ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team won two Spring games on Saturday at Robertson Field. UNM is 3-0 during the 2010 Spring practice season.
“These Spring games are great for getting our guys comfortable in new positions for the coming season” said Lobo head coach Jeremy Fishbein. “It was good to win. Our team is young, but they continue to mature. I’m real happy with where we are at this point.”
The Lobos won its first game of the day, 1-0, against Division II power West Texas A&M. At the 55-minute mark, senior-to-be Ryan Farquharson swiped the ball away from two Buffalo defenders and took the ball into the box, scoring the Lobos lone goal unassisted. A few minutes later, West Texas A&M tested Lobo keeper Justin Holmes but hit the cross bar to send the shot out of bounds.
Later in the day, UNM beat Division II Colorado State-Pueblo, 2-0. Sophomore-to-be Lawrence Robledo won the opportunity for a penalty kick around the 25th minute. Senior-to-be Michael Reed put the penalty kick in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. In the second half, sophomore-to-be Levi Rossi put the ball in the net from up the middle around the 50th minute. Sophomore-to-be Blake Smith got the ball to Rossi for the assist.
New Mexico will continue the Spring season on April 9 at UC Santa Barbara and April 11 at Cal Poly.
