ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Lobo head coach Mike Locksley announced today the signing of Chase Clayton to a National Letter of Intent. Clayton joins a highly touted recruiting class geared to play football at the University of New Mexico next fall. The 2010 freshman class is set to report on campus in early June.

“Chase Clayton is a very talented DB, and we are extremely excited to add him to this signing class,” said Locksley. “One of our primary needs in recruiting was in the secondary, and we feel he can have an impact for us. It’s a blessing for us to be able to get a player of his caliber this late in the recruiting process.”

Clayton, listed at 6-3, 205 pounds, played both sides of the ball last year at San Pedro High School in San Pedro, Calif. He recorded 48 tackles (30 solo), 5 INTs, 3 PBU from his safety position. As a wide receiver, Clayton had 21 catches for 363 yards and 4 TDs.

Clayton chooses New Mexico over San Jose State, Idaho, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Portland State.
