The 21st-ranked University of New Mexico women’s golf team moved up one spot into a tie for eighth place after two rounds of the Bruin Wave Invitational in Santa Clarita, Calif. Lobo senior Jodi Ewart is in a seven-way logjam for fifth place with a 36-hole total of 1-under 143 (69-74). Ewart was 2-over on her round today. Final round action for the 18-team field starts Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. MST. Live stats are available at GolfStat.com.
UNM shot a 12-over 300 at the Robinson Ranch Golf Club (par 72, 6,282 yards). The Lobos are tied with fellow Mountain West Conference member UNLV at 595. Top-ranked UCLA overtook Arizona for the team lead. The Bruins are at 576, four shots ahead of No. 6 Southern Cal and Pepperdine (580).
Ewart fell behind the leaders when she had a double bogey at the par-4 sixth hole. She also had a bogey on No. 15 before making birdie on the par-3 16th.
Ewart trails UCLA’s Stephanie Kono by five shots heading into the final round. Kono shot 68 today and has the lead at 6-under 138. Danielle Kang from Pepperdine is second at 139.
UNM senior Britney Choy finished her round with consecutive birdies for a 3-over 75 and is tied for 17th at 147 (3-over). Sophomore Sarah Salvo is tied for 50th at 153 (75-78). Freshman Bethany Buchner sits in a tie for 54th at 154 (79-75) while sophomore Rebecca Hellbom shot 76 and is tied for 59th at 155 (79-75).
