COLUMBUS, Ohio-The 51st-ranked University of New Mexico men’s tennis team fell to No. 3 Ohio State, 7-0, at the Ohio State Varsity Indoor Tennis Center today at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend event. The Buckeyes (3-0) dominated the Lobos (1-1), winning eight out of nine matches. UNM will meet up with the winner of No. 35 Tulsa and No. 30 Notre Dame at 10:30 a.m. MST tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 31.

The Buckeyes extended their home winning streak to 92 matches and evened the all-time series against UNM at 2-2.

Ohio State took an early 1-0 lead by securing the doubles point. Chase Buchanan and Justin Kronauge handed Phil Anderson and Carl Ho a quick 8-2 loss at the No. 1 doubles slot before Dino Marcan and Balazs Novak finished off the point with an 8-4 win over Joe Wood and Conor Berg at the No. 3 position. Jadon Phillips and Ben Dunbar provided a bright spot for UNM with an 8-7 victory at the No. 2 spot.

Ohio State would go on to sweep the singles slate, picking up two-set wins in all but one match. Dunbar fell to 34th-ranked Shuhei Uzawa 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot to give the Buckeyes the win, 4-0. Wood nearly pulled out a victory in the No. 5 hole, winning the second set 7-6 after dropping the first 6-1. Wood fell in the third set, however, 6-4, to leave the Lobos winless in singles.
