ALBUQUERQUE, NM – For four of New Mexico’s former men’s golfers, the PGA’s assorted Tour Qualifying Tournaments – or Q Schools, as they’re commonly called – helped them cement a spot on a professional tour for the coming year.
Three former Lobos, Spencer Levin, D.J. Brigman and Madalitso Muthiya each qualified for the final of three stages at the PGA Tour Q School, as did Jay Choi at the Japan Tour Q School.
The final of three Q School qualifying stages was held in West Palm Beach, Fla., at the Bear Lakes Country Club.
Levin (UNM 2003-05) shot a 9-under-par 76-68-69-69-70-71=423 to finish tied for 23rd out of 152 competitors. The top 25 finishers earned cards on the PGA TOUR for 2010.
Brigman (1995-99) finished tied for 116th at Bear Lakes CC, earning full Nationwide Tour status. Brigman shot a 5-over 73-74-72-71-73-74=437.
Muthiya (2002-05) finished tied for 135th, having shot a 9-over 78-68-71-75-77-72=441. He earned a conditional Nationwide Tour card with his performance at the final stage.
While he didn’t take part in the PGA Tour Q School, Choi (2003-06) finished third at the Japan Tour Q school, earning his card for that our for the 2010 season. Choi earned an exemption for all Japan Tour events this coming season.
