ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico women’s soccer team earned its third straight National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award. The NSCAA award is given to teams who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0. The Lobo women’s soccer team posted a 3.4 for the 2008-09 academic year.
“Our team has outstanding student-athletes,” said head coach Kit Vela. “They take their academics very seriously which shows in receiving the award.”
Lobo women’s soccer placed four student-athletes on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI Team this season. Senior Jess Quador, Junior Alexis Ball and sophomores Jael Fanning and Amanda Collins were selected. Ball went on to earn Academic All-American honors as well.
In the 2009 spring semester Lobo women’s soccer had 14 student-athletes who earned at least a 3.3 grade point average. For their efforts in the fall of 2008, 13 Lobos earned Academic All-Mountain West Conference awards and 10 were named 2008-09 MWC Scholar-Athletes.
