Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The latest Learfield Sports Director’s Cup Standings have been released and the University of New Mexico Lobos are currently ranked 21st with eight NCAA championships in the book. The final fall rankings will be released on Jan. 14 after the completion of the FBS bowl season. UNM is the top Mountain West Conference member in the rankings.
The Lobos have accumulated 167 points with a record four fall teams advancing to the national post-season. UNM’s men’s soccer and volleyball teams earn 25 points each for the school with First Round appearances in their respective 2009 NCAA Tournaments. The Lobo men’s and women’s cross country teams earned 66 and 51 points to the rankings with strong finishes at the NCAA National Championship Meet.
UNM has 15 sports seasons remaining to accumulate more points to stay in the Top 25. The Lobos best overall finish in the Directors’ Cup standings came in 1995-96 at 43rd. UNM’s most recent Top-50 finish was 48th in 2004-05.
