ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.–Three members of the University of New Mexico men’s soccer team were named to the 2009 NSCAA All-Far West Region squad. Seniors Justin Davis and Simon Ejdemyr and sophomore Michael Green were all honored for their play during the 2009 season.

“It’s great that three of our players were recognized as being premier players in the Far West,” said Lobo head coach Jeremy Fishbein. “In my opinion, the Western Region is the strongest in the country. It’s always tough when additional deserving players aren’t recognized, though, and I do feel that we have other players on our team who are very deserving. However, that shouldn’t take anything away from Justin, Simon, and Michael–I’m very excited for them.”

The Lobos posted a 12-7-1 mark in 2009, advancing to their seventh NCAA Tournament in the last nine years. New Mexico earned at at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and hosted Portland in the first round game, which the Lobos lost 2-1 in OT.

Davis and Ejdemyr were both named to the All-Far West Region first team. The University of New Mexico was the only team in the region to have two players who were repeat All-Far West Region selections. Davis picked up second team honors as a forward in 2008, while Ejdemyr earned third team honors as a defender last year.

Ejdemyr anchored the Lobo backline this year, starting all 20 games while leading New Mexico to seven shutouts and a 0.92 team goals-allowed-average. Ejdemyr also contributed three goals and one assist in 2009 as a defender. Davis led the Lobos in scoring with seven goals and six assists for 20 points on the year.

Green notched his first career All-Far West Region selection this year as a forward on the third team. He started 17 games as a sophomore and was tied for second on the team in scoring, as both he and Stephen Brown had 14 points on five goals and four assists in 2009.
