PROVO, Utah–Three University of New Mexico women’s soccer players were named to the 2009 all-Mountain West Conference team as announced at by the conference office tonight. Sophomore Jennifer Williams earned first-team honors and junior Alexis Ball and sophomore Amanda Collins picked up second-team honors.

“I think that it is a great tribute to the team,” said head coach Kit Vela. “I think that those awards could have gone to a number of players on our team. We really had a team effort this year. It was a great honor for those individuals and it is a great honor for our team.”

This is the second year in a row that the Lobos have earned at least three all-conference awards.

Williams scored 10 goals on the season and dished out seven assists for a total of 27 points. Williams is currently second in the conference in both goals scored and assists. The award was the first all-MWC nod of Williams’ career.

Ball earned her third straight all-MWC accolade and took home second-team honors for the second time. Ball earned second-team honors in 2007 and first-team honors in 2008. Ball netted on goal and added two assists during the 2009 season.

Collins earned second-team honors for the first time in her career. Collins has started 38 consecutive matches, a streak dating back to her first match as a true freshman last season.

The fourth-seeded Lobos take on fifth seed Wyoming in the quarterfinals of the MWC tournament tomorrow at 3 p.m. MT in Provo, Utah. For more information visit www.GoLobos.com.
