New Mexico Heads To Colorado For MPSF Tournament

WOODLAND, Calif. — Seven Lobos were named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s soccer all-conference teams today. Seniors Justin Davis and Simon Ejdemyr and sophomore Michael Green were first team selections, while junior Michael Reed and sophomore Lance Rozeboom were honored on the second team. Senior Stephen Brown and junior Ryan Farquharson were given honorable mention recognition.
Davis led the Lobos in scoring during the 2009 regular season, posting 16 points on five goals and six assists for his second all-conference nod. He was named an MPSF Player of the Week twice this season. Davis, a 6-0 forward from Litchfield Park, Ariz., cracked three Lobo all-time lists during his senior season. He is now fifth all-time in career shots at New Mexico with 174. He’s tied for seventh in the assists category with 18 and is tenth in points with 54. His 18 career goals put him one away from the top ten. Davis was also named to the all-MPSF first team for the 2008 season.
Ejdemyr was named first team all-MPSF for the fourth time in his career. The 6-5 defender from Boras, Sweden posted seven points on three goals and one assist during the 2009 regular season. Ejdemyr now has 26 career points as a defender with 12 goals and two assists. The senior also cracked his first Lobo all-time list this season. He is now ninth all-time in career minutes played at New Mexico with 6199. He has started 69 of 70 games played for the Lobos over the course of four years.
Green had 13 points on five goals and three assists for the Lobos in 2009, earning his first all-MPSF honor. A 5-10 midfielder from Strongsville, Ohio, Green was named an MPSF Player of the Week twice this season. He played in all 17 of this season’s games, starting 14 of them.
Reed, a former high school All-American and New Mexico prep player of the year, started all 17 games in the midfield and is second on the team in minutes with 1541. The 6-0 Albuquerque native scored his first career goal in the Lobos Oct. 25th victory over Denver. This is his second all-conference selection, as he was given honorable mention recognition last season. Reed has six career points on one goal and four assists.
Rozeboom started all 17 games in the midfield, tallying one assist on the season. The 6-1 sophomore from Walker, Iowa played 1458 minutes during the 2009 season. This is his first all-conference selection.
Brown played in all 17 games this season, starting 14 of them, to earn his third all-league honor. The 6-0 forward/midfielder from Arlington, Texas took third team honors in 2006 and earned an honorable mention in 2007. He scored 11 points on four goals and three assists in 2009 and was third on the team in scoring. Brown now has 33 career points, eleven career goals, and eleven career assists.
Farquharson started all 17 games in the midfield in 2009, notching a goal and assist. The 6-1 midfielder from Phoenix, Ariz. has two goals and five assists in his career. This is his second all-conference nod, as he also was given honorable mention recognition in 2008.
The Lobos finish the regular season with a record of 11-6-0 overall, 5-2 in the MPSF. New Mexico is in Denver, Colo. this week for the MPSF Tournament, which will be held on the University of Denver campus from Nov. 12-15. The Lobos will play the highest remaining team in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 13. Depending on which team the Lobos play, the match will be at either 5 or 7:30 p.m. New Mexico’s schedule and opponent will be updated on GoLobos.com when it becomes available on Thursday. The MPSF Tournament Champion receives the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
