The 25th-ranked University of New Mexico women’s golf team rebounded on the final day to tie for 14th place at the Landfall Tradition. Played at the site of the 2010 NCAA Championships at the Country Club of Landfall course in Wilmington, N.C., the Lobos tied for the fifth-best score today at 9-over 297 to finish at 913 with Oklahoma State. UNM started the final round in 17th place.

The tournament featured 16 teams ranked in the top-25 of the most recent Golfweek poll.

Duke rallied to claim the team championship at 887, edging Auburn and second-round leader UCLA by a stroke.

After an even-par 72 in the final round, UNM senior Jodi Ewart ended in a tie for 12th place at 4-over 220 (75-73-72).

Auburn’s Cydney Clanton ran away with the individual title, shooting her third consecutive 70 for a 6-under 210. She won by five strokes over Brittany Altomare from Virginia.

Lobo sophomore Rebecca Hellbom responded from yesterday’s 80 to shoot 74 and finish in a tie for 30th at 225 (71-80-74).

Sophomore Sarah Salvo stepped up today with a 1-over 73 to finish at 16-over 232, good for 62nd place. Senior Britney Choy was 78th at 240 (78-81-81) while freshman Bethany Buchner tied for 84th at 247 (89-80-78).

The Lobos have completed their fall season. UNM begins spring competition Feb. 22, 2010, at the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz.
