WOODLAND, Calif. – University of New Mexico senior forward Justin Davis was selected as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week today after notching four points on one goal and two assists this weekend.

Thanks to a concerted team effort, Davis and the Lobos are off to a 2-0 MPSF start with wins over Seattle (1-0) and Cal State Bakersfield (2-1 OT). Davis had the only assist of the game Friday night against Seattle, feeding teammate Josh Caffey a flick inside the box that resulted in Caffey’s game-winner. Davis had four shots on goal. He notched the game-winner in Sunday’s victory over Cal State Bakersfield, taking a long ball from Euan Holden in overtime and beating the keeper one-on-one to net the sudden-death goal. Davis also had a hand in the Lobos’ thrilling equalizer at 89:22 — he picked up an assist on the Stephen Brown strike that sent the match into overtime.

Davis is tied for first on the MPSF individual stat charts for assists with five. He is currently third in the category of points with fifteen, and tied for fourth in goals with five. The MPSF nod is his second of the season. The Lobos have been pegged for the award three times this year.

New Mexico now enters a four-game road swing, in which they will take on MPSF opponents Air Force, Denver, Sacramento State, and San Jose State over a period of two weeks. The Lobos, (8-4-0 overall, 2-0 MPSF) continue conference play at 7 p.m. MT Friday, Oct. 23 with the Air Force Falcons at the Cadet Soccer Stadium in the USAF Academy, Colo. New Mexico will face MPSF nemesis Denver at 1 p.m. MT on Sunday, Oct. 25 at Pioneer Field in Denver, Colo. Visit GoLobos.com for a complete preview.
