ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team advanced six of seven singles and doubles participants to the quarterfinals at the Balloon Fiesta Invite today at the Linda Estes Tennis Complex. Overall, it was a strong showing for the Lobos, who went 11-1 in singles action and 6-1 in doubles play.
Sophomores Ben Dunbar, Phil Anderson, Carl Ho and Matt Neeld along with freshman Conor Berg secured two singles wins in the opening rounds while freshman Jadon Phillips notched a stellar win, allowing just one point in two sets. Junior Joe Wood is the only Lobo not to advance in singles play while all seven moved forward to the doubles quarterfinals.
The event resumes on Saturday, Oct. 8, beginning with at 9 a.m. doubles quarterfinals while singles quarterfinals start at 10:30 a.m., with six Lobos looking to advance. Saturday also features both singles and doubles semifinals and an array of consolation matches.
