Bremerton, Wash. – The University of New Mexico men’s golf team finds itself in ninth place after 36 holes at the PING/Golfweek Preview. The Lobos posted a 25-over-par 304-297=601 for the first two rounds of the prestigious fall event.
New Mexico’s 601 is good enough to have the Lobos one stroke ahead of defending NCAA National Champion Texas A&M (302-300=602), one of the five teams ranked ahead of New Mexico heading into the event that the Lobos currently lead.
James Erkenbeck is the low man for New Mexico. Erkenbeck carded a 4-over 76-72=148 on the first day and is tied for 13th place. Fellow Lobo Travis Ross is one shot behind Erkenbeck. Ross shot a 5-over 75-74=149 and is tied for 22nd place.
As for the rest of the Lobos , Nick Geyer (75-76=151, +7) is tied for 29th place, John Catlin (78-75=153, +9) is tied for 47th place and Brandon Putnam (79-77=156, +12) is tied for 61st.
Oklahoma State’s Peter Uihlein is the individual leader heading into Monday’s final 18 holes with a 4-under 71-69=140.
Oklahoma State is also leading the team competition, having posted a 1-over 290-287=577. Host Washington (295-294=589, +13), Southern California (305-287=592, +16), LSU (299-293=592, 592, +16) and Arizona State (300-293=593, +17) round out the top five.
Putnam tees off first for the Lobos Monday at 9:00 a.m. MST as they start the final round, with Catlin, Geyer, Ross and Erkenbeck to follow every 10 minutes thereafter.
