The University of New Mexico Co-ed Cheer Team, All-Girl Cheer Team and Mascots recently returned from the Universal Cheerleaders Association College Camp held July 18-21 at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX.
There were approximately 750 participants including the University of Texas, University of Oklahoma, University of Texas El Paso, University of Houston and many others. The UNM cheerleaders trained on all aspects of cheerleading including game day, new skills & team building. It was the first opportunity for the UNM Cheer teams to work together since tryouts in April.
On the final day of the four day camp, all cheer teams competed with the material they learned at the camp. Both the All-Girl team and the Co-ed team placed 1st in the cheer competition, 3rd in the fight song competition and received a Game Planning Award for building game day traditions. The All-Girl Cheer Team received a Leadership Award that was voted on by the other members of the camp. Also, the Lobo Louie mascots received a Superior Trophy for all of their hard work during the week.
