Albuquerque, N.M.- University of New Mexico women’s tennis senior Mackenzie White can add another honor to her list after being named ITA Arthur Ashe Award for the central region. The award is given to the student athlete who has demonstrated both leadership and sportsmanship.
White earned the honor not only because she excelled on the court during her four years but off the court as well.
White graduated with a degree in Nutrition/Dietetics with a GPA above a 3.5. The Mobile, Ala. product has been honored with numerous academic awards over the past four years including College of Education Dean’s List, Mountain West Conference Scholar Athlete, University of New Mexico Scholar Athlete, NCAA High Academic Progress Report Team Honoree, Mountain West Conference All Academic Team and Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete.
White was also the vice-president of the MWC Student Athletic Advisory Committee and was the university’s only representative.
White played a pivotal role on the court going 22-10 in singles play. White ended her collegiate career tied with Chris Hoffee at No. 12 on UNM’s most career singles wins with 74 and was named to the MWC All-Conference singles team for 2009.
