Albuquerque, NM – University of New Mexico men’s golf assistant coach Jim Anderson has been named a semifinalist for the Jack Strickland Assistant Coach of the Year Award by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Anderson was nominated for the award by Lobo head coach Glen Millican. Anderson is one of five semifinalists.
The Assistant Coach of the Year Award Committee will consider any information that is pertinent to a candidate’s selection. Emphasis shall be placed on the following with no particular order of importance.
Ability to recruit outstanding student-athletes. Recognized improvements made by student-athletes on the golf course and in the classroom. Consideration of teams overall GPA during the academic year nominated. Consideration of team and individual awards during the academic year nominated. Contributions to the game of golf.
The semi-finalists for this year’s award are Anderson, South Carolina’s Michael Burcin, Georgia Tech’s Chris Newton, Virginia Tech’s Brian Sharp and Tennessee’s Bryce Wallor. The GCAA will announce the finalists after the completion of the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Regional Championships May 14-16. The 2008-09 award recipient will be named during the National Championships at the Inverness Golf Club in Toledo, Ohio May 27-30.
