The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team notched another win on this windy Friday as they downed Air Force with a 7-0 decision at the Lobo Tennis Club. The Lobos (8-13, 3-4) have an all-time record of 13-0 against the Falcons (10-15, 0-7).
The seniors are coming out strong this weekend. Maria Sotirchos was the first off the court today dominating Shannon Young 6-1, 6-0.
Mackenzie White only allowed one point scored on her during her two sets against Christine Abayan. White defeated Abayan 6-0, 6-1.
Ola Abou-Zekry started off her first set 1-2 but that would be the only time she was down during her two sets. Abou-Zekry handed Christen Monreal 6-2, 6-2 decision.
Anya Villanueva-Forte battled it out against Katrina Eromin. Villanueva-Forte was down 1-2 at the start of the first set but came back to win it at 6-4. In the score at 4-3 New Mexico in the second set Eromin slowly made a comeback tying the match at five all. With the final score at 7-6 the match went into tiebreaker and Villanueva-Forte came out on top winning 7-3.
Ashley Bonner is proving to be a threat as she notched another win today. Bonner defeated Sarah Cassman 6-2, 6-0.
Emma Hayman was also victorious as she handed Allie Chermel a 6-2, 6-0 loss.
New Mexico won the doubles point again on Friday. Bonner and Villanueva-Forte put on a show, coming back from a 0-3 start against Abayan and Cassman. With the score at 1-4 the duo came back to win the next five points to make the score 6-4. Air Force would only score one more point with the final at 8-5 New Mexico.
Abou-Zekry and Hayman downed Eromin and Erlyn Rudico winning 8-3.
The Lobos will be back in action tomorrow for their final regular season match taking on Colorado State at 11 a.m. at the Lobo Tennis Club.
