Lobos Beat Southwest All-Stars, 3-1, In Spring Match

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Lobo volleyball team beat the Southwest All-Stars in three sets on Friday night at Johnson Center and threw in one more set to get more players on the court.

New Mexico won the match, 28-26, 25-15, 25-16, before dropping the last set 25-21. Every Lobo had the opportunity to play in at least one set.

Sophomore Kelly Williamson led UNM with 11 kills, while junior Taylor Hadfield put 10 kills down. Sophomore Allison Buck led the Lobos with 16 digs, while junior Jade Michaelsen recorded 45 assists.

The Southwest All-Stars were led by former Lobo Jeanne Fairchild with 21 kills. Other former Lobos Gayle Tripp, Sarah Kwasigroch and Vanessa Shields also contributed to the Southwest All-Stars. Tripp led with 22 digs, while Shields was second with 7 kills. Kwasigroch split time at setter with Lobo assistant coach Lisa Beauchene and had 19 assists.

UNM continued the spring season with the UNM Spring Invitational on Saturday, April 4 with a split squad competing against UTEP, Fort Lewis, NMMI, West Texas A&M, Frank Phillips, the Southwest All-Stars and split squads from New Mexico State.

The Lobos wrap up the spring exhibition season at the UNLV Spring Tournament on April 18. UNM will also host the 3rd Annual Grass Bash fundraiser on Sunday, April 26. Registration for the Grass Bash is available on GoLobos.com.
