ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico head coach Jeff Nelson saw some good things on Saturday, April 4, as the Lobos competed as a split squad at the UNM Spring Volleyball Tournament.
“It was exciting to see all of our athletes get a lot of playing time this weekend,” said Nelson. “We are really starting to see some high quality play.”
UNM 1 went 5-0 on Saturday with wins over NMSU 1, West Texas A&M, NMMI, Fort Lewis and the Southwest All-Stars. UNM 2 was 4-1 on the day, including a come-from-behind win over NMSU 2. The lone loss was to NMSU 1 in a very close match.
“I was very impressed with the play of Taylor Hadfield this weekend, along with improved passing out of Allison Buck, Lisa Meeter and Rose Morris,” said Nelson. “Jade Michaelsen had a great weekend leading the team. We need to see more intensity, but overall things are coming along very well this Spring.”
The Lobos wrap up the spring exhibition season at the UNLV Spring Tournament on April 18. UNM will also host the 3rd Annual Grass Bash fundraiser on Sunday, April 26. Registration for the Grass Bash is available on GoLobos.com.
