SEATTLE, Wash. — New Mexico junior Katie Gilmore went 3-for-3 with an RBI but it wasn’t enough as the Lobos fell to No. 3 Washington 9-2 Sunday in the series finale. The nationally-ranked Huskies swept UNM over the weekend and improved to 27-3 on the season. New Mexico slipped to 9-19 overall and will travel to New Mexico State Tuesday to battle the Aggies at 6 p.m. MT.
Washington jumped ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning but UNM wouldn’t go down quietly. The Lobos scored a run in the third and another one in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.
UW added two in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead at 4-2 and put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth with five runs.
Lobo freshman Danielle Castro pitched a complete game going six innings allowing nine runs on 13 hits. Castro dropped to 2-7 on the year but continues to gain valuable experience with every outing.
Gilmore was the only Lobo to have multiple hits in the contest. Junior Cristin Anderson went 1-for-4 against the Huskies and had her first home run of the season. Anderson is hitting .311 this year.
UW’s Felecia Harris threw a complete game against the Lobos. Harris gave up two runs on eight hits.
New Mexico travels to New Mexico State Tuesday and will battle the Aggies at 6 p.m. MT in the Rio Grande Rivalry.
