COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Three members of the University of New Mexico women’s swimming and diving team were named to the 2008-09 all-Mountain West Conference team as announced today by the league office.
Freshman Marissa Campbell was selected for her performances in the 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle at the Mountain West Conference championships last week. In her first year Campbell smashed long-standing school records in both the 100-yard freestyle, the 100-yard backstroke, and is second all-time in the 50-yard freestyle.
Campbell set the record in the 100-yard freestyle at championships with a sixth-place finish and a time of 50.44. The previous record was 51.41 set by Teri Sexton in 1988. In the 100-yard backstroke Campbell finished third touching the wall 54.99. An eighth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle earned the All-Conference recognition in a third event.
Junior divers Sasha Evangulova and Aubrey Bush were selected for their performances on the 1-meter springboard. Evangulova finished sixth in the event with a mark of 271.20, followed by Bush in seventh (259.00). Both Bush and Evaugulova will be joined by Alexandra Lusk and Ashlee Erickson at NCAA zones.
