OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.—The University of New Mexico earned 211 points to finish eighth at the Mountain West Conference swimming and diving championships in Oklahoma City, Okla. The BYU women won their eighth overall women’s team title in 10 years with 643 points Saturday night at the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatics Center. UNLV followed the Cougars with 585.5 points. Wyoming was next at 483, followed by Utah (468.5), Colorado State (452.5), San Diego State (375), TCU (354.5), New Mexico (211) and Air Force (128).
Marissa Campbell earned her second top-10 individual performance of the meet with a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 50.44.
Four Lobos made it to the finals in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Leading the way for UNM was Maria Dudley in 13th place and a time of 17:16.46. She was followed by Jennifer Burgess in 17th (17:22.10), Tonya Gramstad in 18th (17:27.80) and Bridget O’Hara in 22nd (17:36.48).
Gramstad made it to the finals in the 200-yard breaststroke picking up a 15th-place finish, splashing to the wall in 2:25.15.
Katrina McLoughlin, Sally Bellinger, Jennifer Patterson and Campbell finished ninth in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:27.61.
In day three of competition Campbell produced a NCAB qualifying time on a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 54.99.
The second day Sasha Evangulova led the way for UNM with a sixth-place finish and a score of 271.20. Following in seventh was Aubrey Bush with a mark of 259.00, and in ninth was Ashlee Erickson (251.85).
Freshman Marissa Campbell placed eighth in the 50-yard freestyle with a finals time of 23.47. Also capturing an eighth-place finish for the Lobos, with a time of 1:34.98, was the 200-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Campbell, Tesse Maciekno, Sally Bellinger and Katrina McLoughlin.
In day one of competition Aubrey Bush led the Lobos with a ninth place finish on the 3-meter dive with a score of 269.15.
Sasha Evangulova followed in 10th-place with a mark of 262.20 and Ashlee Erickson rounded out the event placing 16th (222.90).
Bridget O’Hara, Maria Dudley, Jennifer Burgess and Jennifer Patterson placed eighth in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:40.90.
All four divers, Alexandra Lusk, Sasha Evangulova, Ashlee Erickson and Aubrey Bush, have qualified for the regional diving zones to be held March 12-15 in Austin, Texas.
The All-Mountain West Conference teams will be announced Monday, March 2.
The Lobos finished the season 2-8, 1-6 in MWC meets.
