LOBO BASEBALL QUICK HITS
• Lobos Set NCAA Triples Record … The Lobos set an NCAA record for triples in an inning on Saturday in the second game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Mike Brownstein, Dane Hamilton and Brian Cavazos-Galvez hit back-to-back-to-back triples for the first three. Kevin Atkinson added the fourth two batters later in the 8-run fourth inning. The last time an NCAA Division I team set that mark was May 3, 1983 when Wichita State did it against Missouri S&T (formerly Missouri-Rolla). Washington did it twice – in 1974 and 1966.

• Triple-palooza … It was a triple-fest all weekend for the Lobos. UNM has 11 on the season in just six games. In 2008, UNM had 25 triples all season, 11 over 35 non-conference games.

• Getting Things Under Control … After a rough first inning of the 2009 season (9 runs), Lobo pitchers got things under control and only allowed 10 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi runs over the next 35 innings. UNM’s Saturday and Sunday starters – Travis Dirk, John Hesketh and Bobby Moore – combined for a 1.69 ERA with 3 ER over 16 innings of beginning work.

• Homegrown Talent … The Lobos have 10 players on the roster from the state of New Mexico. The representatives from Las Cruces High School and Moriarty High School put on a strong showing over the weekend. LCHS product Daniel Gonzalez was solid on defense at shortstop, while outfielder Ryan Honeycutt, also an LCHS grad, found his stroke at the plate. Senior Bobby Moore out of Moriarty got it done on the mound on Sunday with a 14-4 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
