COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico senior Tony Danridge has been named the Mountain West Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
A 6-5 guard/forward from San Bernardino, Calif., Danridge helped New Mexico to home wins over Wyoming (86-57) and UNLV (73-69 OT). Against Wyoming, Danridge scored 11 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists. He shot 4-for-8 from the floor and also tallied one steal vs. the Cowboys.
In the Lobos’ overtime win over UNLV, he scored a career-high 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting. After scoring just two points in the first half, Danridge scored 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting after the intermission, including the eventual game-winning basket to put UNM up 71-69 with 5.4 seconds remaining in overtime. Danridge also contributed nine rebounds and one steal vs. the Runnin’ Rebels.
For the week, Danridge averaged 18.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game, while shooting 66.7 percent (14-for-21) from the field and 81.8 percent (9-for-11) from the charity stripe.
It is the third MWC Player of the Week honor of his career. Danridge earned two Player of the Week honors during the 2006-07 season.
