EUGENE, Ore. – The 41st-ranked University of New Mexico men’s tennis team defeated Oregon, 5-2. New Mexico improves to 5-1 in dual match play while Oregon drops to 5-3.
The Lobos took the doubles point with 8-5 wins from seniors Johnny Parkes and Miles Bugby at the No. 1 position and senior Graeme Kassautzki and sophomore Joe Wood at the No. 2 slot. UNM has won every doubles point on the season, while the tandem of Parkes and Bugby remain undefeated. Kassautzki and Wood are 5-1.
New Mexico won four straight matches to begin singles play and secure the win. Parkes continued to dominate with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Marcos Verdasco in the No. 1 position. Parkes has yet to lose a match in singles or doubles. Elliot Chang, who made his singles debut on Saturday, picked up a win defeating Ric Mortera at the No. 5 slot, 6-3, 7-5. Freshman Phil Anderson and Bugby were also victorious.
The Lobos will square off with regional foe Denver on Friday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m.
