Eugene, Ore.- The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team lost to No. 58 Oregon (4-2) today in Eugene Ore., at the Student Tennis Center, 5-2. The Lobos drop to 2-3 on the season. New Mexico will continue their weekend doubleheader tomorrow versus No. 39 Colorado.

Senior Ola Abou-Zekry had a big win today against Pavlina Smatova. Abou-Zekry came out strong winning the first two points. Smatova battled back to make the score 4-2 New Mexico. Abou-Zekry got two quick points to take the set at 6-3. Abou-Zekry started the second set where she finished the first winning the first point. The scoring went back and forth with Abou-Zekry leading 3-2, but she broke Smatova’s serve to make the set 4-2. Smatova tried to battle back but Abou-Zekry won the set 6-4.

Also victorious in singles play was sophomore Victoria Tessmar who defeated Trudie du Toit. Tessmar jumped to an early start winning the first set 6-0. The second set started off the same as the first with Tessmar taking the first two points. The set went back and forth the next few points but Tessmar came out on top winning 6-4.

The Lobos will be back in action tomorrow in Eugene, Org. against Colorado at 10 a.m. MST.
