LAS CRUCES, N.M.— The University of New Mexico fell to New Mexico State 178-105 this afternoon in their final non-conference meet of the season. Freshman Marissa Campbell led the Lobos with two first-place finishes. Gabby Erickson and Jocelyn Colella picked up the two other top finishes on the day.

Campbell led off the competition finishing first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.07. She was followed by Jocelyn Colella in third (59.19). Campbell’s other top finish came in the 100-yard freestyle where she touched the wall in 52.78.

On the 1-meter dive Erickson dove her way into a score of 277.20 earning a first-place finish. In second place was Sasha Evangulova (253.95), and in fourth Alex Lusk (246.15). On the 3-meter dive Evangulova picked up another second-place finish with a mark of 267.45, followed by Erickson in third (256.88) and Lusk in fourth (254.55).

Colella splashed her way to first-place in the 200-yard backstroke finishing with a time of 2:08.98 In the 200-yard butterfly Jennifer Patterson finished second (1:00.04), with Ashley Grisdale directly behind in third (1:00.14).

Maria Dudley once again had a strong showing in the distance freestyle events. She finished second (10:39.34) in the 1,000-yard freestyle followed by Jennifer Burgess in fourth (10:54.45). In the 500-freestyle Dudley finished third in 5:15.54.

In the 200-yard butterfly Nanette Wittenberg finished second (2:11.33) followed by Ashley Grisdale in third (2:12.77). The Lobos other second-place finish came from Campbell in the 50-yard freestyle (24.38).

The Lobos are now 18-6 overall against the Aggies, 2-7 on the season and 1-5 in MWC meets. New Mexico State won 1.5 points toward the Rio Grande Rivalry, making the score 13.5-4.5 in UNM’s favor.

The UNM diving team will compete Jan. 30-31 at the Air Force Diving Invitational in Colorado Springs. The Lobos’ final dual meet of the season will be Feb. 7 in Albuquerque against UNLV.

The Mountain West Conference Championships will be Feb. 25-28 in Oklahoma City.
