ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—The University of New Mexico women’s swimming and diving team fell to conference competition Utah today 155.50-87.50.

At the Rio Rancho Aquatic Center the Lobos swept the top three spots in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Maria Dudley paced to a first-place finish touching the wall in 10:48.53, she was followed by Jennifer Burgess in second (10:51.42) and Bridget O’Hara in third (10:59.10).

Dudley also captured a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:19.66). Tonya Gramstad finished third (5:21.22).

In the 400-yard medley relay Jocelyn Colella, Nicole Peirce, Nanette Wittenberg and Sally Bellinger finished second with a time of 4:04.93. Following in third was Erica Stuart, Asala Halag, Ashley Grisdale and Melissa Neary (4:07.97).

Marissa Campbell splashed into second place in the 50-yard freestyle finishing in 24.42. In the same event Tesse Maciejko finished fifth (25.52). Campbell also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle touching the wall in 52.89.

Colella finished in second-place for the Lobos in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.36. She was followed by Erica Stuart in fourth-place (1:02.49), and Kelli Light in fifth-place (1:04.14).

In the 200-yard individual medley Ashley Grisdale captured third-place (2:23.72), followed by Wittenberg in fourth (2:15.16), and Colella in fifth (2:16.62). Jennifer Patterson also finished third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.43.

At Sandia High School Aubrey Bush paced the way for the Lobos picking up a second-place finish for the Lobos on the 3-meter dive with a score of 275.03. Finishing third was Sasha Evangulova (271.12), followed by Alex Lusk in sixth (230.02), and Gabby Erickson in seventh (225.30).

On the 1-meter dive Bush finished third (246.07), Erickson tied for fourth (236.99), Evangulova sixth (230.17), and Lusk eighth (202.50).

The Lobos are now 1-5 in Mountain West Conference competition and 2-6 overall. New Mexico will return to action Jan. 23, taking on TCU at West Mesa High School. The meet is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
