Former University of New Mexico cornerback Glover Quin was added to the roster of the 2009 East-West Shrine Game today. The Lobos have had at least one player in the nation’s oldest all-star game every year since 2005. The 84th East-West Shrine Game will be played at the University of Houston’s Robertson Stadium and broadcast live on ESPN2 on Saturday at 2 p.m. (Mountain).
New Mexico’s 2008 starting cornerback tandem of Quin and DeAndre Wright both received invites to the NFL Scouting Combine as well. The Combine will be held Feb. 18-24 at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis and broadcast live on the NFL Network.
Wright, who was recently cleared to resume training after recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, has been preparing for the Combine in Tennessee at the D1 Sports Training facilities.
Quin was a first team all-Mountain West Conference selection in 2008 after tying for the conference lead with a career-high five interceptions. He also finished his career with a school record 31 pass break-ups and his 4.5 tackles for loss in ’08 were the most ever by a Lobo corner.
Wright, a first team all-MWC pick in 2007, finished his sensational career with 10 interceptions and 25 pass break-ups. He was also named to ESPN’s All-May Day Team in 2008 for his courageous performance late in the year, playing through major injuries to both shoulders.
