ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.–The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team earned its sixth straight National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic award. The award is given to teams that achieve a 3.0 grade point average or better.
“This award is what our mission is all about and that is developing student athletes,” said head coach Jeremy Fishbein. “This is a prestigious award that not many Division I institutions receive. To receive it six years in a row just shows the effort our boys put in the classroom as well as on the field.”
The Lobos are no strangers to postseason academic awards. New Mexico is the only team in the nation to have at least one player earn ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America honors since 2003. Senior Chris Wright and Junior Simon Ejdmeyr were the latest Lobos to earn Academic All-America honors. Ejdemyr earned first team honors while Wright earned second team honors.
