The University of New Mexico women’s swimming team remains in eighth place with 251 points, after the second day of competition at the Nike Cup Invitational in Long Beach, Calif.
Relay teams carried UNM in the second day of competition. In the 200-yard medley relay Marissa Campbell, Tesse Maciejko, Jennifer Patterson, and Katrina McLoughlin teamed together to claim eighth place with a time of 1:48.91. Patterson and Campbell also led the Lobos to a ninth place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:50.78).
Campbell also finished ninth in the 100-yard backstroke (56.62), followed by Jocelyn Colella in 18th (58.61).
In the 400-yard individual medley Ashley Grisdale finished 14th, touching the wall in 4:35.89. Patterson finished 15th in the 100-yard butterfly (58.31). In the 100-yard breaststroke Maciejko placed 21st (1:08.19).
The UC Irvine/Nike Cup will conclude Saturday with prelims beginning at 9:00 a.m. and finals at 6:00 p.m. at Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach.
